Stable snow cover is established during the winter months in Northern part of Kazakhstan and can reach up to 42 cm in Nur-Sultan city. The volume of snow plays an important role in the hydrological cycle of this region with snowmelt being the main source of freshwater for most of the water bodies and accounting for the high flow events during spring in the main rivers. Considering the role of snow water in the water balance fresh snow samples after the snowfall events have been collected and melt water is preserved for future analysis in the Water Isotope Analyser at Nazarbayev University. The samples are being collected from November 2021 until March 2022.
